Google will soon put ads in its AI previews

Google began the public rollout of AI search previews last week, and already the inevitable has been announced. Ads arrive on AI previews.

At the Google Marketing Live event on May 21, Google announced new ways advertisers can use and benefit from AI in their ads. One of the announcements was that AI previews in search would add online ads “soon.”

No specific date has been announced – they’re not live yet – for the rollout, but Google says ads will appear in AI previews soon. Google also claims that people find the ads “useful.”

These ads will appear with a prominent “Sponsored” disclaimer and display products related to your query. The Google example below shows recommendations and links to anti-wrinkle products when searching for “how do I get wrinkles out of clothes?” »

Google explains:

In early testing, we heard that people found ads appearing above and below the AI-generated preview useful. Soon, we’ll start testing Search and Shopping ads in AI Previews for users in the United States. They will have the option to appear in the AI preview in a section clearly labeled as “sponsored” when they are relevant to both the query and the subject. information in the AI preview.

Notably, these ads will be automatically generated from existing ads in Google Search. So at some point, any ad that would normally appear in search will start showing up in Google’s AI previews.

In a blog post explaining the change, Google reiterates that it will “continue to test and evolve the search experience” and that it will “remain focused on sending valuable traffic to publishers and creators.” despite the company’s demo (below) showing no links to the web until you scroll down the page.
