Google Weather for Android now shows the date

It’s not the update people are looking for, but Google Weather now includes the date in the 10-day forecast.

Previously, the forecast only showed the day: today, Sunday, Monday, etc. While it was never really confusing, it’s a bit of an odd choice when you get past the week mark. (The iOS Weather app does the same thing.)

Google Weather now displays the day and date to help with long-term planning. This change appears to have been rolled out with Google app 12.25.

Old versus new

Since its 2023 redesign, Google Weather hasn’t seen any real updates. While the Pixel widgets and At a Glance weather icons have been updated, the app still uses its original set. In the meantime, Google recently retired the dedicated Weather app icon.

Last year, Google hoped that its Weather app would be gradually improved. The previous update was a redesign of the Google Material theme that arrived just as the first Material You redesigns began rolling out.

Google Weather, which now relies on proprietary forecast models, could benefit from a standalone app rather than being part of the Google app. Features like radar and more widgets (for all Android devices) would be very useful.
