Perplexity can face Google in research, but its CEO does not want the technology giant to be broken within the framework of the historic antitrust case of the DoJ.
Aravind Srinivas declared on Monday in an X post that his company had been invited to testify in the remedy phase of the Doj affair, which intervenes after a judge ruled in August that Google had violated the antitrust rules to maintain a search monopoly.
Srinivas said he intended to testify that “Chrome should stay inside and continue to be managed by Google”, but that Android should become “more open to consumers’ choice”.
He said that the next to come from Perplexity, Comet, is built on Chromium – the open source frame that Google has created.
“We do not believe that anyone can perform a browser on this scale without a success or the commercial model to be able to serve as many users of many users while keeping the free browser,” wrote Srinivas.
However, in the same articles, he challenged Android, the open source operating system belonging to Google.
Srinivas said that telephone manufacturers are forced to use a version approved by Android Google to access applications like Play Store and cards, which means defining Google Fault Services.
This limits the choice of consumers, he said, and blocks alternatives such as the AI assistant of Perplexity. Perplexity, founded in 2022, the fields of more than 100 million research requests each week, said Srinivas in October.
Google has paid billions, including $ 20 billion in Apple, to be the default research provider on smartphones, according to court documents.
“The remedy that is right in our opinion,” continued Srinivas on X “, is not a break from Google, but rather offering consumers to choose their defects on Android without feeling the risk of loss of income.”
The remedies offered include separation from Chrome or Android, ending research for research income or forcing Google to share research data with competitors. Google said he would appeal.
A second case of the DoJ, focused on the domination of Google in digital advertising, was also devoted to the remedy phase this week.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for commercial initiations of comments.
