Demis Hassabis, Deepmind CEO of Google, said that it was impressed by the new Deepseek AI model but thinks that the media threw around Chinese technology is exaggerated.
“I mean, just briefly, on Deepseek, it’s an impressive work, and I think it’s probably the best job I have seen from China,” said Hassabis on Sunday in Paris, where he is Ready to attend the action of the summit.
“But it is important to understand that despite media threw, there is no new real scientific advance there. He uses known techniques,” added Hassabis. “In fact, many of the techniques that we invented in Google and Deepmind.”
He quoted Alpha Zero, Deepmind’s learning system that taught chess, to go and Shogi to the point where he could beat the world champions.
However, Hassabis has recognized that the new Deepseek model could make a difference on “the geopolitical scale”.
The Chinese AI product sent shock waves in the technology industry last month when he showed that he could compete with American models like the Openai Chatppt, threatening to overthrow what markets had believed to be a substantial advance owned by American companies.
Deepseek also said that he had spent a fraction of what US companies were investing in their AI models, shaking up the quantity of development costs and improving advanced automatic learning. The beginnings of the model finally sparked a sale of $ 1 billion on the American market.
Meanwhile, Google also declared Tuesday in its profits that it planned to spend 75 billion dollars on capital expenses this year.
His team and those of the Powerhouses like Openai and Microsoft focused on a breed to carry out the general artificial intelligence, or on the point where a model of AI can reach or exceed human reasoning.
Deepmind, Deepseek and Highflyer, the Chinese coverage fund that supports Deepseek, did not respond to requests for comments sent by Business Insider.
