“ Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer ”: Where is Heuermann

“The Long Island Serial Killer”, the latest documents from the real crime of Netflix, tells the story of a series of suspicious deaths and the man linked to them, Rex Heuermann.

The three -party program, published on Netflix in March, details how 11 corpses, mainly women, were found in the Gilgo Beach region in Long Island, New York, in 2010 and 2011.

The show offers interviews with the families of certain dead women who are dead, as well as police and journalists who worked on the case at the time.

The authorities finally connected the architect Rex Heuermann to some of the deaths, and the case is underway.

As the series shows, a woman named Shannan Gilbert, an escort, disappeared in May 2010 after visiting the home of a client in Oak Beach, in Long Island.

The police found nothing in his initial research as Gilbert in the Gilgo Beach region in Long Island. Upon their return in December to watch again, they found the body of four women who also worked as escorts.

In 2011, the police found Gilbert’s body in Oak Beach, and his death was deemed “indeterminate” by the Coroner office, when the authorities thought that she had drowned in the Marais.

The police identified Heuermann as a suspect in March 2022, after connecting him to a witness declaration. He said that in 2010, they saw an avalanche by Chevrolet Verte, which corresponded to the description of his car, near the place where Amber Costello, one of the victims, disappeared.

From there, the authorities retested the hair they found in jute in which some bodies were wrapped. They were a match for Heuermann’s wife, who was absent with their children during the time that each of the women died.

Heuermann was arrested in July 2023 and was accused of first degree murder for the death of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.

He was then accused of murder for the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla and Valerie Mack.

He pleaded not guilty of the accusations.

Heuermann awaits his trial in prison, but a date has not been set. He is detained at the Riverhead Correctional Center in Suffolk County, New York.

The sheriff, Dr. Errol D. Toulon Jr., told people in March that Heuermann had gotten used to life in prison.

“For the most part, it seems that it is a new lifestyle for him. At first, he was a little more in the starry eyes on his environment. Life has been transformed in recent months. He receives visits, he puts phone calls, and he does not gather with the rest of the population because of the crimes he is accused,” he said.

The authorities want to “ensure that justice is done before the courts and not in our prisons,” said Toulon.

Toulon added: “I think his hobbies right now are to read books, read his discovery, sleep and watch television inside his cell. And he was very consistent. There was no problem.”
