Golden placed on reserve/retired list

The Steelers have placed linebacker Markus Golden on the reserve/retired list.

Golden, who played nine seasons, was signed by the Steelers during training camp. He spent the 2023 season with the Steelers, recording 20 tackles, including 14 solo stops, four sacks, six tackles for loss, a pass deflection and a fumble recovery. His four sacks rank third on the team behind fellow outside linebackers T.J. Watt (19) and Alex Highsmith (7).

Golden played in 16 games and also started in the AFC Wild Card game in Watt’s absence, who was injured.

In nine seasons, Golden played in 127 games, including 68 as a starter. He had 343 career tackles, 51 sacks and 68 tackles for loss. He forced 11 fumbles and recovered six fumbles, including one returned for a touchdown.

Prior to joining the Steelers, Golden spent parts of three years with the Arizona Cardinals, the team that originally selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Golden was traded to the Cardinals by the Giants during the 2020 season, playing seven games for New York, starting one, and nine with the Cardinals, starting eight of them.

Golden signed with the Giants as an unrestricted free agent in 2019, and in his first season there, he started all 16 games. He made a career-high 72 tackles, including 37 solo, and led the Giants with 10 sacks.

He played his first four seasons with the Cardinals and had a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2016 while playing in 16 games with just three starts.

Golden played college football at Missouri, where he appeared in 39 games, starting 13 of them, and recorded 143 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and one interception.
