GoFundMe started paying funeral expenses for girl killed in Stow

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with funeral expenses for 17-year-old Nevaeh Goddard, who was found dead in Stow after missing for two years.

Goddard was found dead at the home of Shane Curry, her 20-year-old boyfriend, according to authorities.

Police said they were called to Curry’s home for a wellness check on April 5. Curry refused to let police into the home when they arrived, according to officials.

When police were able to enter the home, they found Goddard dead, according to a statement from the district attorney’s office.

Curry was arraigned on charges of battery. He reportedly told police he stabbed Goddard with a sword after an argument, according to Boston 25 News.

Goddard’s next of kin, his biological mother Kristen Goddard, and his stepmother, Kristen’s fiancée Heather Coyne, are organizing a GoFundMe to cover the expenses of his services.

The couple told Boston 25 News that the medical examiner told them Goddard weighed 75 pounds at the time of his death.

Goddard had been missing for two years following a request from the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families that she receive behavioral treatment, according to the report.

Goddard was raised by her father, the couple told Boston 25 News, because Kristen gave birth to her in a Pennsylvania prison. According to Kristen, Goddard called child services when she was 14 and was taken into state custody. She was spending time with her biological mother and Coyne when the Rhode Island DCYF made her request and she fled.

The GoFundMe text states that although the state of Massachusetts and Rhode Island have payment options for funeral services, reimbursements take 6 to 12 months.

“Thank you for all the donations we have already received and for all future donations, they are greatly appreciated by our family to help provide our little girl with a beautiful service, a candlelight memorial vigil and legal fees to help obtain justice for our baby (who) was tragically taken from us,” the page read.
