New electric vehicles stimulate American sales growth in the first quarter of 2025
Sales of electric vehicles have shown mixed results in the first quarter. Although Tesla is the center of attention because it continues to lose market share, several new EV models have made impressive debut.
With more than 30,000 electric vehicles sold in the first quarter, more than double the number sold last year, GM exceeded Ford and Hyundai Motor, placing itself second behind Tesla. GM Chevy is now the Fastest Growth EV brand in the United States, with the new Electric Equinox, Blazer and Silverado arriving.

Porsche experienced the growth in the highest electric vehicle sales volume after the launch of Macan electricity. With 3,339 units added, the Macan EV compensated for the sales of Porsche Taycan down 18% to only 1,019.

As Cox Automotive Analyst Stephanie Valdez Streaty noted: “The year has certainly started hard, but the road to come will be anything but gentle.”
Trump ending federal incentives and introducing new prices “will take a monumental challenge for many car manufacturers”, according to Valdez Streaty. Despite several new models that arrive and significant incentives offered (at least for the moment), the rest of 2025 “will probably be volatile for sales of electric vehicles in the United States”.
