Glen Powell Reveals Bill Paxton’s Sleight of Hand Trick He Used in ‘Twisters’

Glen Powell explains how he has kept Bill Paxton’s memory alive throughout his career so far.

By appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, THE Tornadoes The star spoke about working with the late actor on a film years ago.

“I made this film called red wing Years and years ago, and Bill and I became very close on that movie,” Powell said. He remembers that Paxton was “so passionate about weather,” especially since he was in Tornado and would continue the tradition of giving weather reports like his Tornado the character did it.

He shared, “As an actor, sometimes you have to shoot outdoors and you squint and stuff, and he taught me this trick: if you close your eyes and look at the sun, it warms your eyes and you can open them. So while we were shooting TornadoesI was shooting on location all the time, so I’ve used this trick my entire career since I met Bill. Tornadoes I really felt like every time I closed my eyes I was thinking of Bill, which was great.

Powell plays in the refresh Tornadoes film, which offers a current chapter of the 1996 blockbuster Tornadowith Paxton and Helen Hunt. Powell stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos.

In TornadoesEdgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who studies storm patterns on screens after being haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years. After being lured by her friend Javi (Ramos) to chase storms in the open plains to test a new tracking system, they cross paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), a social media star who posts his storm-chasing adventures online. They must fight for their lives as storm season intensifies.

Paxton died of a stroke in 2017 following complications during heart surgery.

Paxton’s son, James Paxton, makes an appearance in the new Tornadoes film to pay tribute to his father. “He wanted to be in a sequel,” the younger Paxton said The Hollywood Reporter. “He saw how special this franchise is and can be just in terms of creating something interesting that people can go to the movies to see, something that’s current and important as well, but also fun; a real throwback to the classic blockbuster.”
