Glastonbury 2024 live updates: Dua Lipa to perform on the Pyramid stage, line-up, weather and travel today

Joe Wicks leads hundreds of revellers in a workout at Glastonbury Festival

British pop star Dua Lipa is preparing to be the first headliner at Glastonbury 2024, as she takes to the Pyramid stage tonight (Friday June 28).

Fears of Worthy Farm collapsing after a cold and wet start to June have been allayed by the latest Met Office report predicting mainly dry spells and temperatures hovering around 18°C-21°C.

An eclectic lineup will perform across the sprawling festival’s stages throughout the weekend, but organiser Emily Eavis has put an end to rumours of “big surprises”. Here’s the full lineup and schedule for Glastonbury 2024.

Before Dua Lipa takes the stage, fans will be able to enjoy performances from K-pop stars Seventeen, Irish rock band Fontaines DC, pop group Sugababes and PJ Harvey.

Earlier this week, Glastonbury organizers confirmed they would not broadcast England’s Euro 2024 round of 16 match during the festival.

If you’re following the series from home, the BBC has shared its coverage schedule for the weekend.

When is Dua Lipa performing on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and how to watch

This is the first time the Glastonbury Festival will have two female headliners, as Dua Lipa will be joined by SZA.

“I feel so lucky to be part of this change,” she told the BBC. “It’s important to have more female headliners. We just need to keep pushing and making this change happen.

She said it might be difficult this time to invite the audience on stage for an encore of “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” as she did at her last Glastonbury performance: “It might be tight. But I have to find a way to make 150,000 people feel like they’re in a small nightclub.”

“That’s the goal, and if there’s a place to do it, it’s got to be Glasto.”

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis defends 2024 lineup

Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis has defended the festival’s line-up despite criticism over a lack of rock bands as pop star Dua Lipa prepares to headline Friday’s music.

This year’s event will see performances from Dua Lipa, Coldplay and American R&B singer SZA, while country star Shania Twain will play the coveted Legends slot.

“I think the lineup reflects what’s happening in the music world at the moment – there aren’t many new rock bands to choose from, to be honest,” Eavis said.

“I hope it pops up again.” My peak was in 1995 with Pulp, Oasis and Radiohead… and it was great, but music changes all the time and that’s where we are now. »

Shania Twain, Dua Lipa and SZA at Glastonbury 2024 top last year’s stale male rock

I know there’s been a lot of grumbling about the Glastonbury lineup this year, and a lot of it is justified (in my opinion), but I also think it’s still a big improvement over Guns’N’Roses or, dare I say, Arctic Monkeys (I love them but last year’s set wasn’t the right one).

Here’s something I did earlier on this same topic

Glastonbury ‘overcast’ this morning with some ‘threatening clouds’

Our team on site has been fed and watered and is starting to move around the site. Patrick Smith, culture and lifestyle manager, gave his own weather report: “The sky is really overcast, with a few threatening clouds over Worthy Farm. »

“A few groggy faces too,” he adds, after sets from Daniel Avery, Joy Orbison and Shygirl kicked off the party last night, “even though they were seriously packed.”

Patrick adds: “There is a fantastic line-up today. I’m looking forward to Olivia Dean on the Pyramid stage, Billie Marten on the Avalon stage and of course Dua Lipa’s main set. »

Also today: Marina Abramovic will be on the Pyramid Stage for a silent, while the brilliant Kate Hutchinson will present Tate Modern Lates at Worthy Farm later today. Tate Modern Lates presents Yoko Ono Vocal piece for soprano, performed by Bishi on the park stage at 12:25 p.m. Experience a collective emotional release as Ono’s educational work invites you to scream. Inspired by the Tate exhibition, Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind.

Then at 3pm in Stonebridge, Kate will be performing a set at Club Ono: an hour of Yoko Ono remixes. She’s very busy, so you can also catch her at Glastonbury’s brand new queer space Scissors on Friday night! Alongside many other brilliant bands.

Don’t expect any “big surprises” this year

Glastonbury is increasingly known for its rumours of surprises – and this year is no exception.

Claims about possible surprise sets and guests are circulating on social media, not to mention the festival website, with many theories about the unannounced acts that could appear.

But, according to Emily Eavis, there will be “no big surprises” this year.

Speaking on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Friday (June 28), Eavis said: “There’s no big surprises either, I just want to say that in case you were expecting something else to come later and that’s been rumoured, that’s probably not true because we’ve got all this amazing stuff, who needs more?

Coldplay fans queue outside Frome venue in hope of surprise set

Videos posted on social media show a queue forming outside The Cheese and Grain, where Coldplay are rehearsing for their Glastonbury gig. While Somersetlive reports that Coldplay are just rehearsing, fans are convinced that the band are preparing to stage a surprise gig.

The Frome venue has become famous among festival-goers as a place where former headliners have held small, intimate gigs. In 2017, Foo Fighters played a surprise gig there before headlining Glastonbury.
