The Spurs have set up in the draft and now have the second overall choice with the 14th choice. They could use the two selections to continue to add large young talents after obtaining consecutive recruits of the year and patiently continue their walking.
There is, of course, another option. San Antonio had a few active after having exchanged against’aron Fox, but none as attractive as the second overall choice in a project which, according to experts, could produce several stars. And there is a superstar that could be realistic to be in motion during the offseason. The question is therefore whether the Spurs should go after Giannis antetokounmpo if he asks now that they have something that could win the auction war?
It is a more complex response that it seems on the surface for a variety of factors, but the adjustment of antetokounmpo is not part. The Greek monster is 30 years old, and even if it is possible that it does not old gracefully while its athletics decreases, we have not seen any sign that this will happen soon. He also developed a mid -range jumper which gives him an additional weapon to use to avoid the wear of his game otherwise physical, and by playing next to’aron Fox and Victor Wembanyama, he would not have to exercise as much during the regular season. In attack, he could work the pick-and-roll with Wemby as a ball manager and diving man, and VIC has a three-point pointer that would allow him to space the ground so that Giannis can cook. Defensively, the Wemby-Giannis duo is almost too terrifying to imagine it. Spurs would turn into an immediate competitor if they had it.
The problem is the price. This is the enigma that comes with a huge decision for a superstar. For a business to make sense for the team to send one of the best players in the league, transport must be enormous. But if the deductible receiving the superstar sends several quality players and active active ingredients, they limit their depth and flexibility. Would the front office be willing to separate, say, Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sochan, the two choices of this project, as well as additional assets? Because the bucks could ask for a lot of things if they focus only on the priority of the return instead of ensuring that Giannis lands in a good situation as thanks for the championship, and other teams could prepare superb packages for him. There would be an auction war that San Antonio could win, but it would probably be expensive.
Antetokounmpo is the rare superstar which would improve anyone who would win it both in the near future and the negative compromises would be acceptable in most situations. Even if San Antonio sends most of his young talents, they would always find themselves with a presumptive programming of Fox, Julian Champagnie, Harrison Barnes, Giannis and Wemby, with Keldon Johnson who leaves the bench with a signed veteran using the exception of half-level level. It is, at worst, a team of 50 victories. In a scenario like this, the Spurs would still have enough additional assets to completely avoid their future like the Suns and, more famous, the nets have done so in the past, but they should be warned about the management of their resources in the future or at the risk of becoming too heavy while two of their main parts are starting to relax.
There are warnings, but it is not difficult to plead to continue a job if Giannis asks. The problem is that it does not seem to be a movement that the Spurs would make. The franchise tends to swing large that when it considers that it is absolutely necessary or that the circumstances are favorable. The greatest exchanges of victories that we have seen in recent decades have occurred at times when it seemed that an upgrade was essential to stay in the running. Otherwise, the front office has opted for patience, continuity and opportunism. If Giannis says he wants to land in San Antonio, as Fox did, the decision -makers would surely use this lever effect to try to get there. It is simply difficult to imagine the Spurs who pursue him aggressively otherwise, given the price, the risk and the history of the prudence of the teams of the team in these questions.
The good news is that the alternative path is almost as exciting as to potentially add a player among the first 5. Spurs can simply use the second overall choice of the project to add another high -level perspective. They have the fox in place to be their main perimeter option for the moment, Wembanyama as a centerpiece, and enough depth, assets and flexibility to make adjustments to the margins. If things go well enough, San Antonio should be a eliminatory team immediately with the ammunition to move in season or next summer. There is no precipitation.
Giannis would look great in silver and black, and the idea of associating it with Wembanyama is enticing. It is also unlikely that it will happen, at least according to the information we have now. Fortunately, Spurs should always make regular progress in their return to discord if they remain on their current path, even if it takes longer.
