Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut PC players get automatic refunds if they can’t legally sign up for PSN

Steam is automatically refunding players who purchased Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut in countries where PSN is not available.

Last week – around the same time that Helldivers 2 was pulled from sale in 177 countries following the disastrous rollout of mandatory PSN linking – Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch confirmed that Steam players were not not required to sign up for PSN if they just wanted to play. the Director’s Cut single-player campaign on Steam.

Now, however, it appears that digital storefronts like Steam and Green Man Gaming have decided – or been instructed to – automatically refund pre-orders from people living in territories where players cannot legally sign up for PSN.

While there has been no official word from Sony, Steam, or Sucker Punch itself regarding automatic refunds, the game’s subreddit and many social networks are receiving complaints from players who pre-ordered the game and discover that their order has been canceled.

Given that developer Sucker Punch “is part of the PlayStation Studios family,” it appears a decision has been made to pre-emptively refund all pre-orders to players who cannot legally sign up for PSN after fans criticized Helldivers 2 so badly, Sony finally reversed its decision.

The message Steam pre-orders receive states: “You are receiving a refund for a game you pre-purchased – Ghost of Tsushima. The publisher of this game now requires a secondary account to play certain portions of this game – and this account cannot be created from your country.

Initially, it was thought that only Green Man Gaming was taking the unprecedented step of automatically refunding Ghost of Tsushima pre-orders, but many players are reporting that the same thing is now also happening on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

We have reached out to Sucker Punch and Sony for clarification and will update as soon as we receive a response.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will finally release on PC on May 16, 2024. The Nixxes Software team recently presented the cross-play and system requirements for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC. He also detailed a new optional PlayStation UI overlay for PC.
