‘Get out of here’ – Deontay Wilder once gave a wild assessment of Mike Tyson’s career and his losses to Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis

Deontay Wilder was often angered by comparisons to former champions while he was WBC heavyweight king.

Many critics downplayed Wilder’s title defenses against lesser opposition during his 2015-2020 reign and suggested he would not have lasted in the era of Mike Tyson and other champions who came before him.

While participating in an Instagram live stream one day, Wilder exploded on the subject and said: “Let’s be real, half of you motherfuckers don’t know your history when it comes to this sport what is boxing.

“You don’t know your story, you don’t know your facts, you don’t know anything. All you know is what you hear.

“We all love Tyson, of course. We love them all, I love them all, they did a great job.

“Everyone was afraid of Mike Tyson, let’s face it, because of how aggressive he was, the way he said it, the things he did.

“He was a fucking psychopath, he was crazy, so of course if a person goes crazy out there, people are going to be afraid of that person.

“But if you go back and I want someone to answer this question for me, how many Hall of Fame fighters did Mike Tyson actually fight?

“How many Hall of Fame fighters did Mike Tyson actually fight? Don’t bring up Michael Spinks who went from light heavyweight to heavyweight, who was terrified of his fucking boots.

“And don’t bring up Larry Holmes because we already know Larry was past his prime, so how many of them?

“We’re going to work on everything today, I’m fucking going to take all of you motherfuckers to school because you don’t know anything about what you’re talking about.”

When someone left a comment saying it was just Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, Wilder continued: “Thank you, thank you. Just two.

“Only two, Holyfield beat him twice and Lennox beat him. Only two, so what are you talking about?

“You go back and make your fucking history. Everybody was scared, no Hall of Famers. Just two, just two.

“Then get the hell out of here. When you come to me, do your facts and research.”

Remarkably, Tyson is now back in the ring and will face Jake Paul on July 20.

This fight is unlikely to taint the legend’s legacy no matter what, although Wilder might blame him!
