German police evacuate city of Dresden during hostage crisis


German police briefly evacuated areas of the eastern city of Dresden on Saturday morning due to a hostage situation, sealing off an area around a shopping mall and a Christmas market as gunfire went off drawn.

Hours later, two people were freed and “apparently unharmed” and the hostage situation was resolved, Saxony state police wrote on Twitter. A spokesperson told local media that a man had been arrested.
