Georgia high school shooting: Suspect’s former neighbors tell harrowing stories of alleged violence, mayhem

Former neighbors of the alleged Georgia high school shooter have shared a glimpse into the family’s chaotic home.

Fox News Digital spoke with neighbors of 14-year-old Colt Gray in Statham, Georgia, a small town of about 2,000 people where the suspected shooter’s family lived until they sold the house in September 2019.

The current owners of Gray’s former home, who spoke to Fox News Digital anonymously, said the house on nearly 8 acres of land was a mess when they bought it in 2019.

The current neighbor said Mauree Gray had warned her family and their real estate agents about Colin’s volatile mood on moving day.

“The day we closed on the house, I was with my wife and our real estate agent, and Mauree came up to us and told us not to make eye contact with Colin, they called him Coly,” the neighbor said. “Mauree said he was in a bad mood and she didn’t know what he was going to do.”

“But when he came in, he was as stoned as he could be,” he said. “Red-eyed and glassy. He wasn’t bothering anyone, but he wasn’t really interacting either.”

The neighbor said that during the move-in process, the children, including Colt, “were left to fend for themselves.”

“There wasn’t a lot of oversight,” he said.

Other neighbors corroborated the stories about Colin Gray’s volatile mood, with one elderly neighbor sharing a heartbreaking story of her brief interaction with Marcee Gray.

“It was during the day, but I was home alone and I saw her (Marcee) running down our driveway,” the elderly neighbor said. “She had a child in her arms and she ran to our barn in the back and tried to get in. And all of a sudden, I saw her husband, in a truck, pull up and start running toward our barn.”

“Marcee tried to get into the barn, but it was locked, and when I saw him (Colin) running toward it, I went out and yelled, ‘What’s going on here?’ He looked up, turned around and ran away really fast.”

“When she left the building, I told her, ‘I’m here if you need me,’” the neighbor said. “She thanked me and I never saw her again.”

The next day, the elderly neighbor was greeted by an unexpected note on her front door.

“It said, ‘Thank you. You saved my life,’” she said. “And it was signed, Marcee.”

After the sale of the Statham, Georgia home, the Gray family seemed to spiral downward as the parents’ divorce separated the three children. Colt went to live with his father, while the two younger siblings initially lived with their mother.
