Georgia court to consider Trump’s appeal of Willis disqualification ruling, potentially delaying election trial

A Georgia appeals court has agreed to consider former President Donald Trump’s appeal of Fani Willis’ disqualification decision that ultimately allowed him to stay in the Georgia election interference case – a ruling which could significantly delay the trial against the former president.

The Georgia Court of Appeals, in a one-page order, said it would grant Judge Scott McAfee’s request for review of the ruling.

Trump and his co-defendants now have 10 days to appeal.

In a statement, Trump’s attorney Steve Sadow said, “President Trump looks forward to making interlocutory arguments to the Georgia Court of Appeals to explain why the case should be dismissed and why County Atty of Fulton Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct in this unwarranted and unwarranted political matter. persecution.”

The Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment to ABC News.

In March, Judge McAfee refused to disqualify Willis, the Fulton County prosecutor, based on allegations that she and prosecutor Nathan Wade conspired to bring the election interference case in an effort to enrich with public money.

Trump and 18 others pleaded not guilty last August to all charges against him in a sweeping racketeering indictment for alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the State of Georgia. Four defendants later entered into plea deals in exchange for agreeing to testify against other defendants.

The former president blasted the prosecutor’s investigation, calling it politically motivated.
