Georgia boy, 12, suffers second-degree burns from boiling water sleepover prank, mom Tiffany West

A Georgia 12-year-old suffered severe burns and was hospitalized after his friends allegedly tossed scalding water on his face as he slept during a sleepover prank gone wrong.

The unsuspecting minor was sleeping at his neighbor’s apartment in Tifton, Ga. while the three other boys, whose ages range from 12 to 15, were playing video games, his mother, Tiffany West, told WALB.

According to West, one of the boys believed it would be a funny prank to pour hot water on the pre-teen, which caused second-degree burns, mostly on his face.

West’s son was transported to a burn center in Augusta where he underwent surgery and is now recovering at home, she told the outlet.

The heartbroken mother was furious at the dangerous stunt that injured her child.

“I mean, I really can’t describe it now. In that moment I was just mad, hurt, in shock. Everything, I was seeing red. I was just trying to hurry up and get him some help,” she said.

The three boys were arrested but later released to their families while they wait for their court hearings next month, the outlet reported.

The boy’s aunt, Nachelle Austile asked the child whether he was “mad or sad” but he wasn’t showing any emotion following his return home.

“He’s numb about it,” she said.

“You got to be in shock to know your friends are capable of doing this to you. Like somebody you trusted, it’s just horrible. He never thought something like this would happen to him,” Austile added.

Second-degree burns often take two to three weeks to heal and usually leave a scar, according to Medical News Today.

The family fell on tough times after they stopped working because of the incident and are facing mounting medical bills as the recovery will take 12 to 14 days.

“My brother and Tiffany have been out of work since this happened with all the traveling,” Austile said. “She is still gonna be out of work to take care of him while he is recovering. She needs to be here for him.”

The loving aunt mentioned her nephew would need counseling to mentally recover from the incident and “be able to trust people again.”

West took to Facebook thanking people for their donations and “encouraging words” as she helped her son recover from his injuries.

“I woke up to SO much LOVE being shown to my son!” she wrote. “Words can’t describe how Thankful I am for each & every one of you! It brings tears to my eyes to know that SO many people care for me & my son & we are not alone in this.”

West called her son a “warrior and strong” as she showed her gratitude for the donations she received.

“All of your donations are very APPRECIATED & it’s all for my son! Every donation, gift, encouraging words & prayer put a SMILE on my son face!” she added.
