Georgia alligator gets into police car after driveway ‘arrest’: video

A Georgia alligator was “arrested” and loaded into a police car after making an unwanted appearance in a resident’s driveway, video shows.

The Chatham County Police Department released footage of the alligator “arrest” in a Facebook post on May 25.

The incident took place Friday near Savannah.

“When an unwanted visitor showed up in this neighborhood Thursday evening, our Cpl. Blackledge and Cpl. Stapleton took action,” police said in the Facebook post.

“Watch how they captured the alligator, took it in the back of a patrol car and released it into the wild.”

Bodycam footage shows officers patting the alligator’s mouth and restraining the reptile before loading it into the back of a police car.

The reptile was then shown being released into the wild.

Residents liked the video and many residents wrote amused comments.

“Have you read him his rights?” one person joked.

“Poor alligator. I too have been in the back of one of these explorers,” joked another.

Other residents praised the officers for showing courage in fighting the alligator.

“Thank you once again. You wear many hats and you wear them well,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Country boys make it happen,” another comment read.

The Chatham County Police Department told Fox News Digital that such alligator sightings are not uncommon in the area.

“There have been several instances in recent years where our officers encountered an alligator and released it into the wild,” the department said.

“We are proud of Corporals Blackledge and Stapleton for working quickly and calmly to move this alligator from a neighborhood to the Ogeechee River, where it belongs.”

“It takes a lot of courage to hold an alligator and tape its mouth shut so it can be transported. But the adrenaline really pumps when you unzip an alligator’s mouth and set it free,” the release added.
