If you’re hoping to see an endless parade of “World premiere!” announcements for this year’s edition Summer Gaming Festival, maybe not. The host of the show, Geoff Keighley, launches ahead of this year’s iteration of the annual June showcase to set fan expectations for what exactly will happen at the show. As a widely accepted replacement for now dead E3 (RIP), fans are expecting big announcements during SGF. And while there will be plenty of game announcements, the games in question will mostly be updates to titles we already know about, not new announcements.

Talk for a Questions and answers on the official Game Awards Twitch channel (he organizes and hosts the end-of-year celebration in addition to SGF), Keighley gave an overview of what the summer showcase will entail and, perhaps more interestingly, what it will not entail. “There will definitely be new announcements,” Keighley assured, “but the series is largely focused, I think, on existing games that have new updates for fans.” Existing games can refer to titles that have already been released but are releasing new updates or expansions, as well as games that have been announced but have not yet been released. So that means we could get anything from one last look Ancient RingIt is Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for an update on Atlus Metaphor: ReFantazio (if I get what I want).

Keighley went even further in managing expectations, revealing specific games that are sure to be not be at the SGF. This list includes Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (the remake of MGS3), Kingdom Hearts 4, The Wolf Among Us 2and that of Ken Levine Judas. “There are definitely things being announced,” Keighley assures fans, “but it’s not a series that looks a lot like ‘coming in 2026’ or ‘2027,’ or teasers for games that will be in years and years “In a way, this is refreshing, because it means that the titles we see during SGF will probably be in our hands within the next two years. The list of games confirmed by Keighley that we will see included Wild Monster Hunters And Metaphor: ReFantazio (I will I get what I want!)

During the Q&A session, Keighley compared SGF to Game rewards to give viewers an idea of how the two shows play off each other: The Game Awards are usually full of big surprises and reveals, while Summer Game Fest leans into updates. This cycle of reveal and update helps make both shows relevant. It’s a good balance and makes sense given that every company under the sun is trying to keep their own showcase in the summer so they can reveal their plans for themselves, but when it comes to the end of the year, Keighley is the man to go to for announcements.

This year’s Summer Game Fest will kick off with a showcase on Friday, June 7 at 5 p.m. ET. It will be streamed live on YouTube and other Twitch platforms.
