Geoff Duncan expelled from Georgia GOP by unanimous vote

The Georgia Republican Party expelled former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan from the party for repeatedly supporting Democrats.

Mr. Duncan successively endorsed President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, going even further than an endorsement by appearing on cable talk shows and giving public speeches in his favor on the electoral campaign.

“By his conduct, Duncan has renounced any pretense of being, even nominally, a ‘Republican,’” the state party’s executive committee said in its resolution, which was adopted unanimously.

The resolution also accuses Mr. Duncan of working against the 2022 bids of Republicans Burt Jones for lieutenant governor and Herschel Walker for the U.S. Senate.

Mr. Duncan’s falling out with the party began when he, along with Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, refused to support Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud during his defeat in the state in 2020 .

Mr. Duncan subsequently became a vocal and public critic of Mr. Trump and the MAGA movement and refused to run for office in 2022.

However, Mr Kemp and Mr Raffensperger remained in the party, won decisive re-election in 2022 and helped deliver the state to Mr Trump in 2024.

According to the resolution, Mr. Duncan is “banned from any property owned or leased by the Republican Party of Georgia and from all events organized by or under the authority of the Republican Party of Georgia.”

He also cannot run for office as a Republican.

Mr. Duncan took to social media on Tuesday to tell state party chairman Josh McKoon that the resolution was just stupid posturing.

“Hard to believe this is a good use of time for a party that has limited time to understand mass deportations, world peace and global tariffs. Learn how to take a victory lap without starting another dumpster fire @JoshMcKoon,” he wrote on X.
