Gennady Golovkin scared Canelo by eating the Mexican’s biggest blow that hurt Amir Khan and Billy Joe Saunders as he proved he had an iron chin

Gennady Golovkin will return to the ring this weekend when he takes on Ryota Murata in a middleweight title unification bout in Japan.

So what better time to revisit his first fight with Saul Alvarez and perhaps the most epic moment of their two-fight streak that saw Golovkin casually eat the same shot from Canelo that left Amir Khan snoring on the canvas.

However, Golovkin is made of solid stuff as the Mexican discovered

The two middleweight champions have sought to settle the debate over who is the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet in 2017.

Canelo and Golovkin had an epic fight in Las Vegas, but fans were left with more questions than answers after the fight was declared a draw.

One thing was certain, however, Golovkin has the best chin in boxing. Not only was the Kazakh fighter able to eat his opponents best shots, but he did so in a way that struck fear into Canelo who is used to people falling when he lands his signature right.

In the ninth round, Canelo hit GGG with a perfect punch but his opponent is unmoved, and the Mexican seems to look a bit worried about the zombie standing in front of him.

The middleweight duo reunited on May 5, 2018, and this time we had a winner. After a close 12 round bout, Alvarez walked away from the fight with a controversial majority decision win.

A third fight seemed inevitable, but four years later, we’ve yet to see the two complete their trilogy.

Gennady Golovkin will face Ryota Murata this weekend

Alvarez has since conquered the super middleweight division, beating Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith to become the first undisputed Mexican champion in boxing history.

Golovkin continued to campaign at 160lbs and beat Steve Rolls, Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Kamil Szeremeta while becoming world champion again.

GGG will put his IBF and IBO titles on the line against Japanese fighter Murata, who currently holds the WBA (Super) middleweight belt and has become a superstar in his home country since winning gold at the Games London Olympics in 2012.

The fight, which takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, not only offers Golovkin the chance to reestablish his dominance at middleweight, but also serves as an opportunity to secure a third fight with Alvarez.

His great rival hopes to complete his trilogy with GGG after fighting Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title on May 7.

Golovkin thinks it’s premature to talk about a third fight with Alvarez despite the fight already being scheduled for September 17.

The 39-year-old prefers to focus on his upcoming fight before thinking about what could be.

“I think it’s too early to talk about it,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think the time will come and we’ll be happy to discuss it, but it’s premature.

“I think we should focus on the fight ahead of us.”
