‘Genius’ medical student seen on Ring video holding knife seconds before allegedly stabbing mother to death

Chilling new details have been revealed about a heinous crime that authorities are calling “one of the most bizarre” they have seen after a Florida pre-med student allegedly stabbed his own mother to death because she irritated him.

At a news conference Monday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd released a 911 audio clip of Emmanuel “Manny” Espinoza, 21, who allegedly confessed to stabbing his mother, Elvia Espinoza, 46, to death in her home Saturday afternoon.

Manny Espinoza allegedly told his mother that he was going to visit his grandfather in Frostproof this weekend, so that he would visit him. Judd said she invited him to stay at her house and he accepted.

Sheriff Judd said Manny arrived at his mother’s home around 2 p.m. and shared the Ring camera footage from his door, showing him holding a knife behind his back seconds before the attack.

A 21-year-old University of Florida medical student is in custody after officials with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office say he fatally stabbed his own mother Saturday afternoon.

“He said he noticed her hands were still moving, so he stabbed her again. And then he told detectives in his confession that he cut his hand with the knife while stabbing his mother. And while he was standing by the kitchen sink, washing himself and cleaning the knife, he wanted to ask his mother for Neosporin for the cut on her hand, but he noticed that she was dead.” , Judd said.

Sheriff Judd said Manny immediately called 911 and played the audio for the press. In the audio, Manny can be heard admitting to the murder.

“I want you to understand that she truly was the perfect mom. I want you to understand that she was very proud of her accomplishments. And then I want you to understand that he viciously murdered her and confessed to it “Judd expressed.

Sheriff Judd said investigators then asked Manny if he loved his mother and if there had been any problems.

“We said, ‘Do you like him?’ and he said, ‘Oh yeah, I like him.’ We asked, “Are you all getting along?” And he said, “Yes, 8 out of 10, we get along fine, but I’ve wanted to kill her for years and I made my decision after Gainesville, today is the big day,” Judd said.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has detailed the gruesome murder involving a Florida medical student who allegedly stabbed his mother to death.

The sheriff noted that Manny had no history of drug or alcohol abuse or mental health issues. He said Manny had no criminal history.

Sheriff Judd said Manny was the youngest of the three and was Frostproof’s Class of 2020 valedictorian. He said he had been described as a “genius.”

“He was quoted at his high school graduation saying, “High school was just one of many chapters we will have throughout our lives. We still have so much to accomplish in the future that will define the type of legacy the Class of 2020 will leave behind,” Sheriff Judd said.

Sheriff Judd added that detectives searched his room at the University of Florida and found nothing that would indicate he was planning to murder his mother.

“This is one of the most bizarre murders we’ve dealt with in a very long time,” Judd said. “And when we see that he left behind a family that loved him, a mother that adored her children, and at that very moment, she should have been at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School creating a future and educating Our second graders, it’s incomprehensible, what happened that day.

Manny Espinoza was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with first degree murder.
