General Motors issued a radical recall of approximately 877,000 trucks and full size equipped with its 6.2 -liter V8 engine, citing potential internal defects which could cause serious damage to the engine.
This decision comes as the action of the Detroit car manufacturer fell by almost 2% on Tuesday after the company withdrew its orientations on the profits for 2025 and frozen $ 4 billion in share buybacks in an uncertainty due to President Trump’s rates.
GM published its report on the results for the last quarter on Tuesday showing that the company has beat the estimates of Wall Street Analyst.
During the first three months of the year, GM declared an EBITDA (profit before interest, taxes, damping and depreciation) of $ 3.49 billion – beating estimates of $ 3.45 billion, although less than $ 3.87 billion that the company said during the same period a year ago.
The CEO of GM, Mary Barra, praised the Trump administration on Tuesday after the Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lunick, announced new measures intended to soften the blow of car rates on car manufacturers.
The recall affects a wide range of high demand models for years of model 2021 to 2024 and includes an order to stop stop on vehicles still in the dealership inventory.
The models had an impact on the flagship brands of GM and include the Cadillac Climbing and ESV climbing; Chevrolet Silverado 1500; Suburban; Tahoe; and the GMC Sierra 1500, the Yukon and the Yukon XL.
All vehicles assigned are equipped with the 6.2 -liter L87 V8 engine of GM.
The problem stems from internal manufacturing defects involving key engine components such as crankshaft and connection connecting rods, according to GM.
These parts may have been damaged during production, increasing the risk of motor power loss or complete failure.
To solve the problem, GM has forced inspections for all recalled vehicles.
The engines that will pass the inspection will receive an oil filter and a replacement of the oil cap as well as a 0W-40 engine oil passage with higher viscosity.
The engines that fail the inspection will either be repaired or fully replaced, depending on the severity of the damage.
“GM will voluntarily remember some 2021-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban; GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, Yukon XL; Cadillac Climbing and Escalade ESV models equipped with 6.2-liter L87 engines to solve manufacturing problems affecting certain engines, “said a company spokesperson in a declaration.
“Security and satisfaction of our customers are the highest priorities for the entire GM team, and we work to approach this question as quickly as possible.”
The recall follows a previous survey launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which began to examine complaints related to engine failures in GM vehicles with the 6.2 -liter V8.
The federal agency received at least 39 complaints before launching an official exam. This investigation remains in progress.
GM has not yet revealed the number of vehicles recalled which can ultimately require the replacement of the engine, and it has not indicated whether accidents or injuries have been linked to the defect.
It is currently prohibited for dealers to sell all the vehicles concerned on their prizes until the necessary inspections and repairs are completed.
The owners of the recalled vehicles will be informed by GM in the coming weeks with instructions on how to proceed.
