Android users will soon be able to leave the features and applications of Gemini control devices with fewer confidentiality problems. In an email seen by Android policeGoogle recently informed Gemini users that it will start to deploy an update on July 7 which allows the Bot AI to “use the phone, messages, WhatsApp and public services on your phone, that your Gemini application activity is activated or deactivated.”
Deactivating the gemini applications activity parameter prevents conversations with the chatbot from being used to “provide, improve, develop and personalize” Google products and AI models. It also prevents users from asking the gemini from performing tasks in connected applications, such as the definition of alarms, call contacts, sending WhatsApp messages and control of multimedia reading parameters.
Google’s Wave Label of the message has initially raised some confusion to find out if the change would give Gemini unlimited access to private data or system functions. Google then clarified that Gemini application connections can always be deactivated at any time and that the update “is good for users”.
“They can now use gemini to perform daily tasks on their mobile devices such as sending messages, initiating telephone calls and defining timers while the activity of Gemini applications is disabled.” Google said in a press release Android authority. “With the activity of gemini applications disabled, their gemini cats are not examined or used to improve our AI models.”
The incoming change means that people can use gemini as a personal assistant for their device without contributing to the Google AI training data sets, just in time for Gemini to really replace Google Assistant On Android devices later this year. Disabling applications activity will also prevent Gemini interactions from appearing in the activities log, although Google notes that it will always save conversations for 72 hours for safety purposes, whether the parameter is deactivated or not.
