Gemini in Gmail can now help you polish your drafts

Google is upgrading its Gemini writing tools in Gmail to help you polish drafts you’ve already written. Now, among other “Help me write” options powered by Gemini like Formalize and Elaborate, you can tap “Polish” to polish your emails, Google said in a blog post . The company has also added shortcuts that appear in the body of your emails on Android and iOS, making the AI-powered writing tools more apparent.

These tools are available to those who have a Google One AI Premium account or who have subscribed to Google’s Gemini add-on for Workspace. If that’s you, when you open a blank draft, you’ll see a “Help me write” shortcut that you can tap to have Gemini write the text for you. Once you have 12 or more words in a draft, whether AI-written or not, you should see a new “Refine my draft” shortcut, displayed in gray letters below the words.

Swiping the “Refine my draft” shortcut brings up options like “Polish” and “Elaborate.”

Slide your thumb over the text and you’ll have the choice to refine, formalize, elaborate, or shorten, or let Gemini write a completely new draft for you. (And if the “Refine my draft” shortcut doesn’t appear, tap the pencil icon to do the same thing.)
