Zamir said that the new phase of the operation had been launched to improve the conditions for the return of hostages, to strike Hamas and to defeat it decisively in areas where Israeli forces work. Zamir said that the campaign aims to reach three fundamental objectives: the return of Israeli hostages, the defeat of Hamas and the dismantling of his reign in Gaza.
