Gary Neville insists Man United will reach the top again as the Old Trafford legend says you can’t ‘suppress the big clubs’.

Gary Neville insists Manchester United’s malaise will not last forever and it is “inevitable” they will become victorious again under the watch of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.

Monday’s 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace was the latest blow in what has been a miserable season for United.

Boss Erik ten Hag has already lost more games this season than any other United manager in the Premier League era – 13 defeats – one more than in 2021/22.

But Neville believes a club the size of Manchester United cannot stay in business for long.

“As sure as the sun rises, Manchester United will start winning again. That’s a fact,” he said.

“When that will be the case, I don’t know. This can be no guarantee, but I know these things move in cycles.

“I lived my whole childhood watching Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal win trophies, win the old Division 1, and I was patient.

“I had to wait until I was 18 or 19 when Manchester United won a league title for the first time in my life – then we won a lot of league titles, and now we haven’t won one alone for 10 years.

“I know very well that in my lifetime – I hope so – Manchester United will win trophies, but they will win trophies again. We will achieve it, just like Liverpool, just like Arsenal.

The Red Devils are nearing the end of yet another disappointing campaign under the leadership of Erik ten Hag.

“You can’t keep these big clubs down. I’m sorry, they’re too big, they’re too established, they have a great history, they’re going through tough times.

Neville was speaking at a red carpet event for the world premiere of a new three-part documentary chronicling United’s 1999 Treble winners.

Part of that historic run saw Sir Alex Ferguson’s side overcome major adversity in an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal, when they went down to 10 men, before lifting the trophy.

Now Neville wants to see Ten Hag’s charges ‘defy the odds’ to defeat Manchester City at Wembley.

“Look, I hope in three or four weeks, this FA Cup final against Manchester City, which is such a tough game, we’ll know how good City are, but if they can just defy the odds, who knows where this could lead,” he said.

“You know, in 1989-90, Sir Alex Ferguson won an FA Cup which gave confidence in himself, in a group of players.

“They went on to win a Cup Winners’ Cup, then the League Cup, then finally a league title.

“It was building block by block, step by step and it could be just around the corner, or it could be a few years away, but they will win Manchester United again. It’s inevitable.
