Game-breaking bug forces Star Wars Outlaws players to start over

Star Wars OutlawsUbisoft’s big game set in a galaxy far, far away technically won’t be out until later this week, but anyone who paid $110 for early access or has a Ubisoft+ subscription got a chance to start playing on Tuesday. However, due to a bug that’s disrupting the game, some PS5 players are being asked to restart their game.

Outlaw PS5 players received an email on Tuesday informing them of the game’s latest update, patch 1.000.002. The message told players that they may need to restart their games from the beginning to avoid further issues.

Here’s the email, as first seen by IGN:

To best enjoy the Outer Rim, we have deployed a maintenance to ensure everyone is playing the latest version of the game. As one of the affected players who had access to an older version of the game, we are aware that you may be experiencing issues after this recent patch. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused… Once you have confirmed that you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended. If you continue on an older save, you will unfortunately encounter issues and progression blockers.

It’s unclear what bugs this patch would fix, as players on Reddit have encountered various issues while playing the game. One player noted that after a mission that took place in space, he was unable to land on the planet Toshara. It seems that the console versions have more of these issues than the PC version, according to threads on Reddit. As a player of the game, I’ve only encountered minor bugs and graphical issues, but nothing that would require a reboot.

As for the game itself, Outlaw The game has a 76% score of 10 on OpenCritic, and io9’s review praised the game for creating a game where you can be a true villain who uses your wits and skills instead of a lightsaber and the Force. Players take on the role of Kay Vess, an aspiring smuggler in the galactic underworld. She finds herself on the losing side of a double betrayal and now has a target on her back. Players will have to lie, cheat, and steal from the galaxy’s biggest crime syndicates: the Hutts, Crimson Dawn, and the Pykes.
