Sandy, Utah-Diego Luna scored two goals five minutes apart in the first half and Real Salt Lake won the Galaxy in defense-champion without victory with a 2-0 victory at America First Field on Saturday.
Luna marked Real Salt Lake (3-4-0) in an advance from 1-0 to the 21st minute with assists by defender Alexandros Katranis and Diogo Gonçalves. Luna made an advance of two goals without help in the 26th minute with her third net of the season and her 16th in 73 appearances for the club during four seasons. Katranis won his first assist this season and his sixth in 34 appearances. The assistance of Gonçalves was his second in the campaign and the third in 16 career appearances.
Luna becomes the youngest player in the history of Real Salt Lake to reach 15 goals and 15 assists in a career, which did it at 21 and 210 days.
Rafael Cabral was to make a single backup to win the white sheet for Real Salt Lake and it came at the fifth minute of the second half’s second half on the left foot of Tucker Lepley. It was the second bleaching for the 34 -year -old man in his first season of the League.
John McCarthy did not have a backup for the galaxy (0-5-2).
Los Angeles plays without Riqui Puig (ACL Tear) with the loss of top scorer of 19 goals, Dejan Jveljić, to wear Kansas City during the offseason. The final result is the worst start by a title champion in the history of the league.
Real Salt Lake had not scored in five consecutive halves before Luna stands out. The club improved at 37-6-12 when scoring since Pablo Mastroeni took the reins in August 2021.
The Galaxy will host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Real Salt Lake moves to play in Nashville SC on Saturday.
