John Keim covers Washington Commanders for ESPN. He joined ESPN in 2013 after a visit with the Washington Post. He began to cover the team in 1994 for newspapers in the newspaper and later for the Washington Examine. He is the author / co-author of four books. You can also listen to it on “The John Keim Report”, which is broadcast on ESPN Richmond Radio.

Gabe Taylor took a moment before putting his Washington helmet for the first time. This meant more for him than the helmet he would wear for the weekend as a test player for commanders during their minicamp recruit.

These are the same colors as his late brother, Sean, wore by playing for the franchise from 2004 to 2007 before being murdered.

“Coming through these doors, guy, all memories,” Taylor told journalists after training on Saturday. “And they obtained the 21 jersey on the wall of the equipment room. … I have the impression that it is something that I have to do and represent it.”

This is why it meant something to just put the helmet.

“I had to take a moment to take a deep inspiration,” said Taylor. “It’s the Washington Redskins, the commanders all my life. I hope I can give it again.”

Gabe wore a Bordeaux jersey with the number 26 – the same as his brother brought to the University of Miami. Washington has retired n ° 21, that Taylor had been carrying in his last three seasons with the team in the past three.

He was twice a professional professional and was posthumously appointed from the second All-Pro team in 2007.

Sean Taylor arrived in Washington as a fifth choice of draft. Gabe Taylor is not assured of anything beyond a test this weekend.

“Coming here, I couldn’t ask anything better,” he told journalists. “I hope I show them that I can come and contribute in all possible ways.”

Gabe Taylor played four years in Rice and was appointed security for the American Athletic Conference year last season.

“I love to see guys like him who really go there,” the coach of Washington Dan Quinn told journalists when he asked him about Taylor.

Sean Taylor was a safety of 6 feet 2 inches and 230 pounds. Gabe Taylor measures 5 feet 10 inches, 190 pounds.

“I don’t care what people say about my size and they want to compare me to him, but that doesn’t matter,” Gabe said. “The only goal I have with this team is the last standing team and win a championship.”

But he showed his brother’s same spirit.

“I am the type of person prosperous on criticism,” he said. “I think I’m a very good player. I’m very versatile; you can go watch the film. He talks about himself.”
