Furious passengers have berated Chiltern Railways after the company told passengers not to travel at all today after making four excuses for its evil Sunday services.

Chiltern Railways, which operates the line from London Marylebone to Bicester Village, declared a ‘DO NOT TRAVEL’ warning this afternoon, disrupting people’s public holiday plans.

The company blamed today’s significant delays on “service interruptions, network congestion issues, engineering changes and limited road transportation.”

Passengers reported having to wait up to four hours for a train before the warning was issued.

One furious passenger said: “It’s a complete disgrace to be waiting in Leamington on trains that are four hours late.

“Why didn’t you move the broken train?”

“We had really poor communications, no one to talk to and a complete disregard for the welfare of passengers.”

“Complete lack of ownership or leadership. »

Lee Mallen added: “This happens every weekend and it’s beyond a joke. Still a piece of engineering, an absolute joke.

“Trains are overcrowded to the point of posing a health and safety risk.

“Three hours of waiting for trains, we might as well walk.”

A third person said: “Wow, a no travel statement from #ChilternRailway on a bank holiday weekend and with a football final at Wembley.”

Another added: “If you can’t remove a broken down train within four hours you shouldn’t have a contract to run the service and charge the public.

“Your service has been disgraceful and a pathetic delay in reimbursement will do nothing to resolve what you have done.”

Chiltern Railways said it had been unable to arrange rail replacement services and that today’s tickets would now be accepted on tomorrow’s trains.

However, one frustrated passenger responded: “Some of us have work tomorrow?!”

“Do you mean “limited road transport”? You have a duty to take care of your passengers and not leave them stranded.

“Take us home!” »

Another person wonders if Chiltern Railways would pay for hotels for people stuck in London tonight.

MailOnline has contacted Chiltern Railways for further comment.

THE ‘DO NOT TRAVEL’ WARNING comes as train passengers across the country have been urged to prepare for severe disruption this weekend and next week, as ongoing engineering work coincides with a industrial action.

Network Rail said it had 487 projects planned between Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Today there were no trains running between London Euston and Milton Keynes, or between Glasgow and England due to engineering works on the West Coast Main Line.

Train drivers who are members of the Aslef union are expected to impose a six-day ban on overtime on Monday, which is expected to lead to cancellations in the short term.

There will also be three days of strike at different operators between May 7 and 9.
