From security guard to ₹400-crore industrialist: Neeraj Singh enters Bihar election arena from Sheohar

Once dreaming of owning a bicycle, Neeraj Singh today runs a business empire with an annual turnover of ₹400 crore. The 38-year-old entrepreneur, who left home before turning 18, began his career as a security guard on the streets of Delhi. Today, he is among the most successful industrialists in Sheohar district of Bihar.

Born in Mathurapur village, Neeraj graduated in 2000 and moved to Jharkhand in search of work. However, due to his young age, he was unable to find a job and returned home, where he started selling gasoline and diesel to support his family. The weight of family responsibilities soon pushes him to venture out again, a decision that marks a turning point in his life.

In 2003, Neeraj arrived in Delhi and took a job as a security guard, working double shifts for meager pay. A year later, he moved to Pune, where he gradually moved from office worker to HR assistant. After his grandmother’s death, he returned to his native state and in 2010 joined a microfinance company in Motihari, earning ₹3,300 per month. It was here that he began to understand market dynamics and business opportunities.

While working in Motihari, Neeraj came up with the idea of trading in grains. When he helped a relative buy land and received ₹25,000 as a reward, he used it to start a small business – a decision that changed his life. His grain business soon expanded to ₹20-30 crore in turnover, laying the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.

Over time, Neeraj diversified into tiles, fiber blocks, fly ash bricks, road construction, flour mills and brick manufacturing. His company, Usha Industries, now employs more than 2,000 people and its products are used in various government projects. In 2025, he also opened his own petrol pump on the Sheohar-Motihari road, symbolically completing a journey that began with roadside fuel sales.

He has now entered politics. Neeraj Singh is the Jan Suraaj candidate from Sheohar Assembly constituency. Hailing from the Rajput community, he is widely considered a symbol of “success through struggle”.

Neeraj holds a bachelor’s degree and an LL.B. A graduate from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Muzaffarpur, he is known for his philanthropic work in the areas of education, health, employment and social welfare over the last decade.
