Chianti Classic

Chianti Classico tips 8/1 for Cheltenham Festival’s Ultima Handicap Chase.

He entered the race in the 21-strong field after standing just behind the long-time leader.

But at the turn he was quite clear and going well and eventually won by over four lengths and won quite comfortably too, but was held back in his work by Twig in second.

The heavy terrain played a huge role and that could greatly improve his abilities in this one as well at a huge cost considering he is continually improving with each race.

At the water’s edge

Inthewaterside has made good progress for Paul Nicholls and could realistically be well weighed to pounce in this race featuring 22 runners.

10/1 is a high one-way price for many bookmakers who also pay for extra places.

He wears a hood for the first time and gets there thanks to two solid races.

Notably his second place behind Pic Roc, which could further boost his potential.

Pic Roc was carrying 8lbs lighter, but after this victory he beat Champagne Twist in the Grade 3 Handicap Hurdles Final at Sandown.

It speaks volumes about his ability to lose so much weight while closing in on a horse in graded company and can now easily navigate this haul with just 10-12 under the guidance of expert champion jockey Harry Cobden.

Dysart Enos and lump sum

This is a fascinating hurdling competition with Supreme Novices’ hurdlers Mystical Power and Firefox leading the betting.

Dysart Enos was due to run in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but was withdrawn and therefore did not get the big bump in ratings that the others got for entering and doing well in their races last month.

But the geldings gave her 7lb and this mare is undefeated over hurdles and even took the Grade 2 bumper easily last year at this festival.

She could very well have won that Cheltenham Festival race won by Golden Ace, with Brighterdaysahead in a surprise second place.

Golden Ace finished second to Dysart Enos in the bumper and did well to surprise a few at 10/1 at Cheltenham, which only increases this mare’s chances.

Lump Sum was tipped to win at Kempton last time and he was obliged to win by more than four lengths.

This was after he was a close second behind Jeriko Du Reponet and caught the eye as he continued to claim that spot after being near the back of the pack for the majority of this Year 2.

Sam Thomas should be able to progress from here under jockey Sam Twiston-Davies with an each-way chance at small stakes.

Jonbon

Brother Douvan was also prominent and dominant over 2m, but tried his luck at 2m4 f, in 2019, and was successful by quite a wide margin at Clonmel in the Oil Chase.

This progression in the journey should not be a concern based on pedigree and could instead allow for further improvement from a horse that has always shown great ability, but has only been brought to the line. ‘twice due to jumping errors.

But this horse won seven out of nine and also placed second twice.

He is reliable even with jumping errors and could follow in Douvan’s footsteps in progressing in travel, but at the age of eight he could see him developing further over this distance.

Fantastic lady

Fantastic Lady was stopped when last seen, at Doncaster in the listed mare race which was won by Limerick Lace.

This mare ran well here, also on the Grand National course, also on heavy back in November when fifth behind Gesskille while carrying maximum weight and is 1lb lighter than that.

She also placed third behind Hewick last April and is little raced this season and will hopefully return to her best after finishing second here last year, which is a huge prize on paper.

Exacta combined

Readin Tommy Wrong was the favorite for the Albert Bartlett but had to be stopped before the last one having not traveled at all without problem.

Although he can put that behind him, his jumps haven’t always been very encouraging and on this kind of 3m event he risks missing out on victory because of it.

The Jukebox Man has just been rejected in this race and thus takes a big step forward in the weights.

He proved to be a top horse, beaten by others at the top level.

He led all the way, jumped well while dictating the pace from the front, and only took the lead when it mattered most, just before the line.

But it is Shanagh Bob who can come here fresh and dominate over a distance he won at Cheltenham, beating Destroytheevidence.

He can follow Sir Gino’s lead in winning for jockey, trainer and owner with a great performance here and keep his unbeaten record intact.
