Paris (AP)-Jannik Sinner, in the lead, beat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) Friday to install a Open of France final against the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic is the record champion of the Grand Chelem 24 times, but could not counter the implacable precision of Sinner and beat the blows of the court on the court Philippe-Chatrier.
The sinner became only the second Italian to reach the final in Roland-Garros after Adriano Panatta, the 1976 champion.
Earlier, Alcaraz led 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0, 2-0 against Lorenzo Musetti when the Italian of the eighth seeded retired with a leg injury.
Sinner aims at his fourth major title, Alcaraz his fifth.
Djokovic retaliated in the third set but withered in the break in equality, in a way missing an easy net with a net to follow 3-0, then lost on the second match point which he faced when his forehand hit the net.
“These are rare and special moments,” said Sinner. “I am very happy.”
He extended his sequence of victories in the Grand Colem tournaments at 20 games, after winning the US Open and the Australian Open.
Djokovic has bid for a 38th final of the Grand Slam Record and eighth in Paris, where he was won three times. But he spent a large part of the semi-final camped behind the base line, sliding with full trunction and growled very while the sinner sent him rushing to the left and on the right like a wiper.
The sinner congratulated Djokovic after defeating him for a fourth consecutive time.
“It was such a special opportunity against Novak in the semi-finals of a Grand Colem,” said Sinner. “I had to intensify. I had to play the best tennis possible. ”
When they met in the net, Djokovic gave sinner a warm embrace and hit her chest several times.
Djokovic did not seem sure how to disturb Italian.
He tilted his head back to frustration when, in the second match of the second set, his attempted drop of drop. Then his lob was not high enough and the sinner broke it easily. Finally, when a rally of 26 times has made its way – with sliced drops and even improbable recovery – Djokovic obtained a huge ovation from the crowd, which yelled “Novak!” Novak! ” while he was treating their applause. This made him duce. But Sinner took the game.
The sinner became the Roland-Garros showman, Djokovic, was so often on the main courtyard, where he won three of his main titles.
An improvised drop stroke from the gunshot on the back of the field was majestic, too good even for Djokovic to come back.
Djokovic had a brief massage on the upper right thigh during the change at 6-5. Serving for the second set a second time, the sinner won him when Djokovic could not return his strong service.
Djokovic immediately took a medical time and received a massage treatment on the same leg for a few minutes.
He looked clearer in the third set, but the sinner held his nerve.
Earlier, Musetti struggled with his left leg.
He was 5-0 after 16 minutes of the third set when he called a coach. Alcaraz broke Musetti in the next match to win the set in 21 minutes, winning 24 out of 29 points.
“It’s not great to win a match like this. Lorenzo is a great player,” said Alcaraz. “I wish him all the best.”
Musetti again called the coach after the third set and, after Alcaraz broke his service to lead 2-0, Musetti approached slowly to the net and received a hug from Alcaraz.
“I felt at the start of the third when I served, I started to lose a little strength on the left leg behind,” said Musetti. “Tomorrow, I’m going to do exams.”
The frustration arrived in Alcaraz during the second set, and at one point, he targeted a side kick in his seat of change.
“The first two sets were really difficult,” said Alcaraz. “When I won the second set, I was relieved.”
Musetti only played in his second major semi-final after reaching the same scene in Wimbledon Last year. Alcaraz said he felt physically fit for the final.
“Really well. It was three weeks intense but I feel good,” he said. “I have a lot of confidence at the moment.”
Alcaraz improved at 21-1 on Clay this year, winning titles on dirt in Rome – beating the sinner in the final after the Italian’s return of his doping prohibition – And Monte Carlo. ___
