Frasier Crane will once again be looking for a new home.
Paramount+ says there won’t be a third season of Spawnhis revival of the NBC-era comedy Must See TV starring Kelsey Grammer. The news comes two months after the end of the second season of the series.
CBS Studios, which produces the series, says it will seek to find a new home for Frasier, which follows Dr. Frasier Crane (Grammer) as he returns to Boston and takes a teaching position at Harvard in order to forge a best relationship with his now adult son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salguiero and Anders Keith also star; Spawn alumni Peri Gilpin, Bebe Neuwirth, Harriet Sansom Harris, Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert made appearances.
The first rumblings of a Spawn the rebirth arrived at the beginning of 2021; Paramount+ gave it a series order in October 2022, and it premiered a year later. As is typical for streaming platforms, Paramount+ has not publicly disclosed viewership figures for Spawn.
“The first season of every show is about finding the characters and realizing, ‘Oh, we thought this character was here, but he’s actually over there.’ Or, “we thought these two had a sniper relationship, but it’s a relationship of mutual respect,” said co-showrunner Chris Harris. The Hollywood Reporter as season two ended. “Our show wasn’t one of the few shows that came out knowing exactly what every character was, like the original. Spawn. But for the most part, in this first season, we’re happy to have found where the center of the show is. And here we need to dive deeper.
Joe Cristalli serves as co-showrunner alongside Harris; they produce with Grammer (via his Grammnet NH Productions), Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon.
The two seasons of Spawn the revival, as well as the original series, will remain on Paramount+.
