Four observations of the loss of the UEFA Nations League in Germany in France

Julian Nagelsmann and his team will be disappointed to withdraw only fourth place in the UEFA Nations League after a mainly successful group phase.

Here are four observations of a disappointing week for German football.

A truly disastrous international break

Before the German semi-final of the UEFA Nations League against Portugal, Julian Nagelsmann stressed the importance of strengthening confidence before the qualifiers for the World Cup of his team in September.

However, after Germany’s defeats against Portugal and France, the 37 -year -old German manager may wonder if his team will even be eligible for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Does Nagelsmann really correspond to international management?

Nagelsmann is a very innovative and tactical manager, who is able to adapt to the fly in order to overcome his opposition.

These features are all good on paper, but to execute it, you need a well drilled team that are on the same page as you and in international football, it is much more difficult to accomplish.

In club football, you spend a lot of time training, refining and paying your team. In international football, you get only a small window to work with your teams before they are again alongside their club, which makes players to know exactly what the match plan is.

This is where the potential problem with Nagelsmann lies. Being the innovator and the tactician he is, he always seeks to change the system in order to obtain an advantage over the opposition, which is once again a fantastic line. However, given the limited coaching time that Nagelsmann has, constant chopping and change of systems make it difficult for players to learn and execute. A good example is Germany using a three-back system against Portugal, then using a 4-4-2 against France. Two very different systems in two games.

Maybe the first Bayern Munich The coach just needs more time with his team or maybe he should simply simplify.

Anyway, Germany has a long road to come if they want to challenge international football in the foreground.

Germany could not finish a two -room puzzle
