Four killed by gunshots near Gaza Aid Center, local health workers say

At least four Palestinians were killed by Israeli shots while they were heading to a aid distribution center, health officers said in Gaza.

The Israeli Defense Forces (FRI) said that the troops had directed warning plans after having made a verbal challenge to a group that was moving towards them and was considered a threat.

This is the latest deadly incident to occur near the aid distribution points in Gaza that have been set up by a new organization, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by Israel and the United States.

The FDI said that it was aware of the information that people were injured, adding: “The number … does not correspond to the information currently held by the FDI.”

The last incident occurred before Dawn, near a help distribution site near Rafah in southern Gaza.

Palestinian paramedical paramedics said they had evacuated four people killed, while crowds gathered in the hope that the aid center would open and that they could get food.

A woman said her husband had been killed in her head while waiting to recover food for their family.

The Israeli army said that the Palestinians should only move to and from GHF distribution sites between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, and that in all other moments, it must be considered an “active combat zone”.

The GHF said it opened three sites on Sunday – one in the center of Gaza at 06:00, then two others in Rafah at noon.

Israel recently started to allow limited aid to Gaza after a three -month blockade, prioritizing distribution via GHF.

Distribution sites are part of a new aid system – largely condemned by humanitarian groups – aimed at getting around the UNWhich, according to Israel, did not prevent the aid which diverts Hamas from its fighters.

The UN says that it had not been a widespread problem and that the GHF system is impracticable and contrary to ethics.

The GHF was mired in the controversy, after several fatal incidents took place during its first week of operation.

More than 60 Palestinians were killed by gunshots during the first three days of distribution of the Foundation, according to reports from doctors and local health authorities.

Several witnesses blamed the Israeli soldiers for the killings.

The FDI said that it had shot warning the first two days and pulled near the Palestinian suspects who progressed to their positions on the third, adding that it was investigating incidents.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, in charge of the Madleen ship which has climate activist Greta Thunberg among its crew, said that it “was actively preparing for the possibility of interception” while it was on its way.

The Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the soldiers to prevent the boat from reaching Gaza.

“You’d better go back because you won’t reach Gaza,” he warned.
