AUBURN — Four hikers and a dog are safe after being rescued from the side of a cliff in Auburn, near California’s tallest bridge.

This happened Monday evening on the west side of the Revenue, on the North Fork of the American River, under the Foresthill Bridge.

Cal Fire said it responded around 8:30 p.m. Monday after hikers called for help when they couldn’t find their way back to their car. The hikers came from out of town and hiked a secluded trail, getting lost as the sun set.

Technical rescue crews from California State Parks, Cal Fire and Placer County responded to the call. The hikers were rescued unharmed and were not injured.

Nolan Hale, battalion chief of Cal Fire’s Auburn headquarters, said the rescue couldn’t have happened in a better location.

“They were basically 50 feet below our training site. Over the last four to five months, we’ve held seven large low-angle rope rescue training courses there. The ground, equipment and systems we “We’ve used them so we’re all very familiar,” Hale says.

With the summer recreation season just months away, Cal Fire said you should always have a plan when hiking, have a plan and research the area, have food and water, have a way to communicate with authorities and let people know where you are hiking and what. the time you will return.
