Four fruits that “support efforts to reduce belly fat” thanks to their low glycemic index

Fruit is one of the pillars of a healthy diet, but it can also hinder weight loss efforts by causing unruly spikes in blood sugar levels.

To maintain a healthy weight, experts recommend fruits with a lower glycemic index than tropical fruits like mangoes.

Sarah Pelc Graca, Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified nutrition coach, explained: “Although fruits contain natural sugars, they also provide fiber, vitamins and antioxidants.

“Berries, apples, pears and citrus fruits are good options because they have a relatively low glycemic index compared to tropical fruits like bananas and mangoes.

“It’s important to note that while choosing the right carbs can support your efforts to reduce belly fat, paying attention to the amount of calories consumed in all types of foods is also crucial for success.

“This is because a calorie deficit (where you consume fewer calories than your body burns) is necessary to lose weight.”

Chris Pruitt, certified personal trainer and CEO of WorkoutHealthy.com, confirmed that complex carbohydrates are among the best foods for weight loss.

“Foods rich in soluble fiber, a type of complex carbohydrate, are particularly effective at reducing visceral fat around the midsection.

“Oats, barley, legumes, and fruits like apples and oranges are great choices that can help manage weight and reduce belly fat.”

There is no evidence that eating fruit at a certain time of day promotes weight loss, but there are practical ways to eat fruit to burn fat.

Health experts at VeryWell Health emphasize that when the goal is weight loss, it’s not enough to simply add fruit to the diet.

They also point out that fruit juices can contain as much sugar as soda and could contribute to weight gain if consumed in large quantities.

“If weight loss is the goal, choose fruits to replace high-calorie sugary and processed foods,” nutrition experts said.

“Fruit should be part of a varied diet that includes vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and dairy products.”

While apples, berries, pears, and citrus fruits help burn fat, other foods can combat issues like bloating.

Nutritionist Guna Bilande, from Weight Loss Riga, claimed that pineapple, ginger and cucumber have a remarkable ability to flatten the stomach area.

Rich in vitamins C and B6, as well as manganese and dietary fiber, pineapple not only aids digestion but also strengthens immunity and promotes general well-being.

“Cucumbers hydrate and contain enzymes that promote digestion,” explained the expert.
