Four adolescents were identified as among those killed in a Santa Ana accident during the weekend, the authorities said.
The accident, which remains investigation, took place around 11:25 p.m. on Saturday on Segerstrom avenue, between the Raitt and Greenville streets, according to the Santa Ana police department.
The driver of a Lexus sedan accelerated Segerstrom on a few houses west of Carl Thornton Park and hit a tree, said Santa Ana police officer, Natalie Garcia. Four people, including the driver, were killed in the accident. Two others were transported urgently to the hospital.
The Coroner Orange Coroner office identified four of the victims as residents of Santa Any Robles, 19; Emanuel Gonzalez Martinez, 18, who was the driver; Natalia Vidal Zarate, 17 years old; and Jacqueline Torres Zarate, 16.
A fifth adolescent, who is a student at Carr Intermediate School, was on the maintenance of life on Tuesday and has shown no sign of brain activity, said Garcia.
Ignacio Robles told KNBC-TV that two of his daughters were passengers in the vehicle and that one of them was killed.
“It was a good child,” he told the station. “She hasn’t talked much, she didn’t addict, hasn’t drunk.”
According to a GoFundme page, Aly’s sister, Arlene, is still in a hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries.
“Words cannot express the sorrow and sorrow that our family feels,” says the GoFundme page. “Arely was a bright light in all our lives – loving, kind and full of dreams. The pain of losing it is indescribable.”
The unified school district of Santa Ana confirmed that the students of the Valley high school and the Carr intermediary school had been killed in the accident.
“Our entire Sausd community is devastated by this unimaginable loss,” according to a district press release. “We express our deepest condolences to families and their relatives of the victims, and our thoughts remain with the two people who recover.”
