Former Wimbledon, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear dies aged 77

Joe Kinnear, former manager of Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Wimbledon, has died aged 77.

Kinnear suffered from dementia having been diagnosed in 2015.

Joe Kinnear has sadly passed away at the age of 77.

A statement from his family, reported by the Daily Mail Mike Keegan: “We are sad to announce that Joe passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family.”

Kinnear was considered a Tottenham legend having played for the club between 1965 and 1975.

During this period, he made 258 appearances for the club and won numerous trophies.

These include the 1967 FA Cup, the 1972 UEFA Cup and the League Cup which he won in 1971 and 1973.

After leaving Spurs, he joined Brighton where he spent a season before hanging up his career and becoming manager.

He was also capped 26 times for the Republic of Ireland.

After rising to management, Kinnear spent seven years as Wimbledon manager, including a sixth-place finish in the Premier League in 1993/94.

He then spent more than two years in charge of Luton, before spending 11 months in charge of Nottingham Forest.

His last notable roles came at Newcastle United where he was caretaker manager in 2008/09, before becoming their director of football in 2013.
