Former UFC star Tyson Pedro shares photo of horrific injury that led to boxing debut being canceled

Former UFC fighter Tyson Pedro is expected to be sidelined for a while.

The retired MMA fighter was scheduled to meet Australian heavyweight champion Kris Terzievski for the vacant WBC International Bridgerweight title in his boxing debut on June 12.

However, Pedro canceled the fight after suffering a serious injury in training.

The 32-year-old took to social media on Wednesday to share a graphic photo showing his arm bent the wrong way during a boxing workout.

“This is not the way you want your arm to go,” Pedro captioned the Instagram post.

“Pretty devastated, I have to postpone the fight. Fortunately, it’s not a bad break and should be a quick turnaround. Thanks for the messages. Same mission, different timeline.

It has since been confirmed that Pedro suffered a broken elbow, but he is confident the healing process will be quick.

“I’m devastated, but I’ve had to deal with injuries before and there’s not much you can do,” Pedro told Wide World Of Sports.

“I broke my head, but that’s the nature of the fight game. When you train that hard, you can expect to have those kinds of injuries.

“It seems pretty easy – knowing it’s bones and not ligaments or tendons, because then you know you’re in it for the long haul. With bones you can just give them a little time.

“Six weeks, I hope. It’s still the same mission, just a different timeline.

Promoter and Australian boxing legend Danny Green was less optimistic about Pedro’s recovery timetable, suggesting the former UFC light heavyweight needed to go under the knife.

He added: “It’s probably too early to say (how long he will be out), we just received the results this morning. There is a strong possibility he will need surgery.”

Pedro compiled a 10-5 record before retiring from MMA earlier this year.

The 6-foot-3 Australian fighter, who holds victories over Paul Craig and Khalil Rountree Jr., claimed his decision was motivated by family and financial issues.

Once a proper recovery schedule is in place, Pedro’s boxing debut against Terzievski will be postponed until later this year.
