Former RNC chairman warns 2024 candidate Nikki Haley against Donald Trump

Michael Steele, the former head of the Republican National Committee, on Monday criticized 2024 GOP nominee Nikki Haley’s latest attempt to “play it both ways” when it comes to Donald Trump.

Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, slammed Trump earlier in the day and called for a generational change in the GOP — but then, in the next breath, admitted she would still vote for the former president if he were the party’s nominee.

Haley’s “chewing gum talk” was just a “banal” attempt to appease Trump supporters, Steele told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing.

Steele suggested Haley take on Republican front-runner Trump or “get out of the race.”

“Stop wasting our time,” he added.

Haley should “look a lot more like” former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a rival candidate who, after years of being a Trump ally, repeatedly trashed the ex-POTUS, if she actually wanted the job, Steele said.

“If there was more of a unified message on this, then you would probably start to see movement inside the party,” the former GOP leader added. “But everyone is looking at protecting Trump instead of eliminating him because he’s afraid of what? So… it’s almost to the point where you’re tired of answering the question about what are these people doing? They have no idea what they are doing. »
