Former PGA Tour professional Brandel Chamblee has suggested a crazy theory about how the Rory McIlroy at LIV Golf rumors originated.
McIlroy was forced to deny rumors he was set to join the Saudi-funded separatist tour.

City AM have claimed the four-time major champion will be paid £680million to make a dramatic U-turn and join LIV.
McIlroy has been vocal about his opposition and criticism of the Saudi-backed tour and has vehemently denied the report.
“I honestly don’t know how these things started,” McIlroy said in an interview with Golf Channel.
“I was never offered a LIV number and I never considered going there.

“I think I’ve made it clear over the last couple of years that I don’t think it’s something for me.
“That’s not to say I’m judging people who went to play there, I think one of the things I’ve realized over the last couple of years is that people can make their own decisions about what ‘They think they are best for themselves and who are we to judge them for?
“But personally, for me, my future is here on the PGA Tour, and it’s never been any different.”
When asked if he knew where the rumor came from, McIlroy replied: “No, no idea.”

Former Chamblee professional offered on X, formerly Twitter, that the rumors were actually started by LIV following their players’ poor performances at the Masters.
Responding to the rumors, he wrote: “I have no doubt that this rumor was started by the Saudis/LIV…to benefit the Saudis/LIV after such a poor performance, as a group, at the Masters.”
“I would be very surprised if this turns out to be true.”
Asked about this poor performance, he added: “You think they paid $3 billion for a few top tens and to be +82 as a major band?
“A senior beat some of his ‘stars’ and almost all of LIV’s players’ games have deteriorated since they sold their souls to the Saudis who only bought a moment… nothing else. “
Bryson De Chambeau and Cam Smith fared better, finishing tied for sixth at two under par.
Tyrrell Hatton was tied for ninth on a tie, while Patrick Reed was tied for 12th on one.
Phil Mickelson finished 43rd at eight over par, while Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka both finished nine over par, 45th.
LIV also had Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson miss at Augusta.
