Former opponent of Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora makes spectacular MMA debut only to be knocked out in 14 seconds

Former boxing world title challenger Artur Szpilka will quickly want to forget his last MMA fight.

The Polish southpaw fought Arkadiusz Wrzosek at KSW 94 on Saturday night in his fourth outing as a professional MMA fighter and made a strong impression with his entry.

Szpilka was transported to the cage in a cryogenic chamber accompanied by scientists and dramatic sound effects – the kind of scene you would expect to see in a sci-fi blockbuster.

However, he couldn’t turn back when the bell rang.

Szpilka came out of the gates, looking to land one of his signature straight lefts, but was pulled to the ground upon his entry and finished with a flurry of shots to the canvas in the first 14 seconds.

It was the first defeat of Szpilka’s very young career (3-1) in MMA.

Szpilka transitioned to MMA after retiring from professional boxing in 2021.

As a gloved professional, he went 24-5 and fought several familiar faces.

The best victory of his career came against former two-weight world champion Tomasz Adamek in 2014.

This launched a four-fight winning streak that landed him the order to face Deontay Wilder for the WBC world heavyweight title two years later.

Szpilka gave “The Bronze Bomber” some real trouble early in the gates, but he finally came unstuck when he was hit by a big right hand in the ninth round that sent him down and out.

After trading wins and losses against world-class fringe opposition, ‘The Pin’ was knocked out by Derek Chisora at London’s O2 Arena in his only appearance on British shores.

He fought three more times in the paid ranks, beating Fabio Tuiach and Serhiy Radchenko before being dispatched in the opening stanza by WBC bridgeweight champion Lukasz Rozanski.

In 2022, it was announced that Szpilka would make his MMA debut against his old foe Radchenko.

He won the fight via second-round TKO, then defeated Denis Zalecki after his opponent was unable to continue due to a knee injury.

His third pro-MMA fight was against five-time World’s Strongest Man winner Mariusz Pudzianowski, whom he knocked out in the second round.
