New Orleans (AP)-The veteran of the Saints of New Orleans, the starting quarter, Derek Carr, decided to retire due to a labral tear on the right shoulder and “significant degenerative changes” in its round in Rotator, the team announced on Saturday.
Carr, 34, has played for 11 professional seasons since his selection of Fresno State by the Raiders of the Estor-Oakland in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft.
It was acquired by the saints as a free agent in 2023, but had mixed results in New Orleans, spending 14-13 as leaving while struggling through oblique, hand and head injuries which made him miss seven games last season.
Carr, which entered the third year of a $ 150 million contract over four years, felt unexpected pain in his shoulder when he started accelerating this off -season, which led to his diagnosis which has now shortened his career.
“Surgery was an option, compromising all the 2025 season, but there was no guarantee that Derek would return to the level of strength, function and performance performance to which he was accustomed,” said saints in a written announcement.
The saints recognized only the injury of Carr before the day before the project. Carr spoke publicly about the injury until a few days later, when he delivered a invited sermon to a church in Las Vegas. In this sermon, Carr said that his detractors “lie” about him when they questioned the unusual moment of the injury, as well as the initial reluctance of the team and Carr to answer them openly or answer questions on this subject.
Carr has career totaling totals of 41,245 yards, 257 affected and 112 interceptions. He retired with a record of 77-92 in the regular season as a starter and without having won an eliminatory match.
Carr said he had made the decision in consultation with his wife, Heather, and “to the reflection of prayer”.
“For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are eternally grateful and humiliated by this experience,” said Carr. “It is difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and in particular the fans who made this trip so special.”
The decision also comes after New Orleans used a high choice of recovery in the second round to select Tyler Shough from Louisville as a future potential quarter-although it remains to be seen at what speed it can be ready for this role.
The other QB on the alignment of the saints include the second year professional Spencer Rattle and the third year player Jake Haener, who posted a victory between them in seven games last season, which Rattler started.
