A report about a strange craft that seemed to defy both aerial and aquatic physics is apparently causing a stir among ex-military personnel.
Tim Gallaudet, an oceanographer and former Navy rear admiral who authored a March white paper on so-called “unidentified submerged objects,” or USOs, said: Fox News this week, he considers it both “scientifically valid” and essential for national security to study these phenomena.
Published by the new Sol Foundation, a think tank dedicated to studying what the military calls “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP), the 29-page report focuses on a 2019 video taken aboard the Omaha off the coast of San Diego.
The video, which was leaked to filmmaker Jeremy Corbell and verified by the Pentagon as a legitimate example of a UAP registered by the Navy in 2021, raises more questions than it answers – and in his interview and in the Sol Foundation report, Gallaudet suggests that this strange craft should be addressed like a threat.
“Pilots, credible observers, and calibrated military instruments have recorded objects accelerating to speeds and crossing the air-sea interface in a manner impossible for anything made by humans,” Gallaudet wrote in the first think tank report.

Although no one can explain exactly what is happening in the USS Omaha video, the capabilities of the documented craft could endanger U.S. maritime security, Gallaudet said. Fox“which is already weakened by our relative ignorance of the global ocean”.
“The fact that unidentified objects with inexplicable characteristics are entering American waterspace and the (Department of Defense) is not raising a giant red flag is a sign that the government is not sharing everything it knows about abnormal phenomena in all areas,” he said. The naval officer continued, perhaps referring to the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which hunts UAPs.
While UFOs generally get attention – whether from the government, academia or conspiracy theorists – Gallaudet and others view USOs as just as threatening as their flying counterparts, if not more so.
Scot Christenson, director of the US Naval Institute, wrote in a 2022 op-ed for Naval History Magazine that while there has so far been “no documented damage to aircraft caused by a UFO,” mysterious sea creatures and other USOs “have presented the greatest danger to the Navy.”
Although there is a big gap between the little green men and the legendary krakens of the deep, the military’s main priority when dealing with unidentified objects or creatures in the air or sea is security – and if there is video footage of the “world-changing” occupations, as Gallaudet said in his report, is certainly something that will concern the Pentagon.
“To address security and scientific challenges,” he continued in the Sol Foundation report, “trans-medium UAPs and USOs should be elevated to national ocean research priorities.”
