Sunrise, Florida – The former Curart of major leagues Rafael Furcal faces crime charges in southern Florida, authorities announced.
The former All-Star went to Broward County prison on Wednesday and was released on bond shortly after, according to the judicial archives. He is accused of aggravated battery with a fatal weapon and throwing a missile in a house or a public or private vehicle.
The judicial archives did not register a defense lawyer for Furcal. His former agent, Paul Kinzer, refused to comment on the accusations and did not provide a way to reach Furcal directly.
The Sunrise police service issued Furcal’s arrest warrant on Monday, but it did not immediately publish details on what led to criminal charges.
Furcal, 47, started with the Braves of Atlanta in 2000, followed by stays with the Dodgers of Los Angeles and the Cardinals of St. Louis. He was with the cardinals in 2011 when they beat the Texas Rangers in the World Series. He ended his professional baseball career with the Miami Marlins in 2014.
Furcal finished the 12th triple game without help in the history of the MLB on August 10, 2003, while playing for the brave against the cardinals.
