A federal judge on Wednesday denied former JPMorgan Chase executive Jes Staley’s request to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the bank that seeks to hold him legally liable for sex trafficking by former JPMorgan client Jeffrey Epstein .

The decision in the US District Court in Manhattan came two days before JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon was to be filed in a lawsuit brought by the government of the US Virgin Islands against the bank over its relationship with the late predator Epstein.

The Virgin Islands alleges in the lawsuit, filed in December, that JPMorgan facilitated and financially benefited from Epstein’s trafficking of young women to his private island in US territory to be abused by him and others there. Epstein was a longtime client of the bank until 2013.
