Former Game Informer Staffer Bids Farewell: ‘Be Well. Play Well.’

A former Game Informer staffer has posted what he considers a “proper goodbye” on social media following the magazine’s surprise closure last week after 33 years. The new post implies that the farewell shared on August 2 wasn’t written by someone at Game Informer.

On X, a “former Game Informer staffer” wrote that the magazine’s legacy deserves better than what was previously released to the public. The new social media post ends with former editor Matt Miller saying, “Be well. Play well.” Additionally, two images are attached that show the “masthead for issue 368,” which was in production but will not be completed. The screenshots highlight all of the staff members who lost their jobs last week. The Game Informer X account was shut down shortly after the post was shared, but GameSpot first captured it.

Game Informer’s Final Message

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier posted on X that he asked ChatGPT to create a “Game Informer farewell,” and it came up with a message similar to the one Game Informer shared last week. Schreier also added images comparing the two farewells, though it has not been confirmed whether parent company GameStop used AI to create the message.

GameStop shut down Game Informer on August 2. The magazine launched in 1991 during the 16-bit era and became one of the go-to video game publications for decades, alongside competitors like EGM and GamePro. The last issue was #367, which featured Dragon Age: The Veilguard on the cover.

Earlier this year, Game Informer began offering standalone subscriptions for the first time. Previously, getting the magazine required either having a GameStop Pro subscription or simply purchasing individual issues in stores.

At the time of publication, Game Informer’s website only features the farewell message shared on August 2. This means that previous cover stories and other content from the magazine’s long history are not available at this time.
